PODCAST SUMMARY
Biological Holistic Dentistry: How Oral Health Impacts the Entire Body
A Conversation with Dr. Yolanda Cintron
Oral health is far more than clean teeth and fresh breath. According to biological dentistry, what happens in your mouth can directly affect your immune system, brain, heart, and overall health.
In this episode of The Dr. Haley Show, Dr. Michael Haley sits down with internationally recognized biological dentist Dr. Yolanda Cintron to explore the deep connections between oral health and systemic disease, the dangers of root canals and mercury fillings, and how true healing requires a whole-body approach.
Meet Dr. Yolanda Cintron
Dr. Yolanda Cintron has been a dentist for nearly 40 years and a biological dentist for almost 30. She is a biological reconstructive dentist at the International Center for Dental Excellence in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and is recognized nationally and internationally as a leader in biological and holistic dentistry.
Her practice focuses on identifying and removing oral toxic loads while restoring not only the oral cavity, but the entire body systems connected to it. Patients travel from across the United States and around the world to seek her expertise in complex, health-focused dental care.
Dr. Cintron’s philosophy is grounded in the understanding that oral health and systemic health are inseparable. True healing requires addressing the body as an integrated whole through precision diagnostics, biocompatible materials, evidence-based protocols, and patient education.
What Is Biological Holistic Dentistry?
Biological dentistry is not recognized as a specialty by the American Dental Association, which is one reason it remains relatively uncommon. In the United States, only about a thousand dentists are currently training in biological dentistry.
Unlike conventional dentistry, biological dentistry:
- Evaluates how dental infections affect the entire body
- Avoids toxic materials like mercury and incompatible metals
- Uses biocompatible materials tested against the patient’s immune system
- Integrates medical history, blood work, and imaging
- Treats the mouth as a gateway to systemic health
According to Dr. Cintron, after more than 12,000 patients and thousands of biopsies, she has never seen a root-canaled tooth that was not infected.
The Hidden Dangers of Root Canals and Mercury Fillings
Root canals and mercury amalgam fillings are still considered standard of care in the United States. However, Dr. Cintron explains that these procedures can leave behind chronic infections and toxic exposures that burden the immune system for years.
Mercury is a known neurotoxin. Many patients with mercury fillings and root canals experience:
- Neurological symptoms
- Autoimmune disorders
- Thyroid dysfunction
- Chronic inflammation
- Cognitive decline
Dr. Cintron works closely with medical doctors to identify oral toxic loads before patients undergo detoxification or cancer treatments, as the body cannot heal effectively while infections remain in the mouth.
The Mouth–Body Connection: Teeth and Organ Meridians
Each of the 32 teeth is connected to specific organs through energetic meridians. These connections mean that dental infections can contribute to dysfunction in organs such as:
- The heart
- Liver
- Prostate
- Brain
Dr. Cintron routinely sees improvements in blood pressure, EKG readings, inflammatory markers, and lab values after removing oral infections and restoring healthy bone and tissue.
Comprehensive Diagnostics and Whole-Body Evaluation
Every new patient undergoes a detailed evaluation, including:
- CT scans and X-rays
- Extensive photography
- Medical history review
- Blood pressure and EKG monitoring
- Lab work when necessary
Treatment plans are individualized, based on the patient’s health history, goals, and ability to heal.
Bone Regeneration and Tooth Replacement Options
When infected teeth or root canals are removed, the jawbone must be properly decontaminated and regenerated. Dr. Cintron uses advanced protocols that may include:
- Laser-assisted surgery
- Piezotome technology
- Platelet-rich plasma from the patient’s own blood
- Biocompatible bone graft materials
Once healing occurs, patients may choose between:
- Zirconia (ceramic) implants
- Bridges
- Partial dentures
- Full dentures
Zirconia implants are favored because they are metal-free, highly biocompatible, and non-conductive, reducing electrical interference in the body.
Preventive Care and Everyday Dental Habits
Prevention is central to biological dentistry. Dr. Cintron emphasizes:
- Flossing multiple times per day
- Brushing after meals and before sleep
- Tongue cleaning
- Frequent professional cleanings
- Avoiding processed foods and excess sugar
She also addresses clenching and grinding, which have become increasingly common, and uses advanced nylon mouth guards to protect teeth without introducing harmful plastics.
Sedation Dentistry and Patient Comfort
To reduce anxiety and inflammation during treatment, Dr. Cintron’s practice incorporates:
- Oral or IV sedation when needed
- Oxygen therapy
- Red light therapy
- Natural anti-inflammatories such as turmeric and arnica
- L-theanine for nervous system support
Patients are prepared physically and emotionally before any procedure begins.
Faith, Healing, and the Human Connection
One of the most unique aspects of Dr. Cintron’s practice is the integration of spiritual care. Patients are asked what they would like prayer for, and prayer is offered before procedures.
Dr. Cintron believes that while dentistry can remove infection, true healing comes from God, and that spiritual, mental, and physical health must all be addressed together.
Final Thoughts
Biological holistic dentistry challenges conventional thinking, but for many patients, it provides answers they have been searching for for years.
Education, experience, and informed decision-making are essential. As Dr. Cintron advises, patients should take time, ask questions, seek second opinions, and choose practitioners whose philosophy and values align with their health goals.
